"Yesterday, we had a meeting with the regent and cat lover communities. They were very supportive of this," shared Pramono at Jakarta City Hall, on Thursday (5/20).

He pointed out that the development plan for Cat Island in Thousand Islands must be carried out seriously and with a long-term approach. Pramono also reminded that its implementation shouldn't be rushed and should go through thorough studies.

"I have asked Thousand Islands Regent not to handle this half-heartedly, because this is for a long-term purpose, so it shouldn't be done halfway and shouldn't be rushed," he asserted.

Previously, the Thousand Islands Regency planned to make Tidung Kecil Island into a cat-friendly tourist destination after conducting surveys to several locations.

Thousand Islands Regent, Muhammad Fadjar Churniawan, said that the survey was carried out to follow up the direction of Governor Pramono who intends to open Cat Island tourism in Thousand Islands area.

According to him, there are four islands that have been surveyed in South Thousand Islands, namely Onrust Island, Cipir Island, Rambut Island, and Tidung Kecil Island.

"We have been given the flexibility by governor to determine which island will be designated as the Cat Island tourist attraction. Among the four islands we surveyed, Tidung Kecil Island is the most suitable," he explained.

Fadjar conveyed that in determining the island, his side involved Animal Defenders Indonesia. Further studies will later be conducted to examine both academic perspectives and whether the island is suitable for cats.
